Halab or Aleppo is a city and a province in Northern Syria. From this region the original soap bar was created over 2000 years ago. It is still the founding father of all vegetable based soaps, containing little more than natural oils and potash.
This fascinating, yet eccentric soap is still one of the purest available and has changed little over the centuries. As a rule, the soap makers in Aleppo work during the winter months from November to March. It takes about six to nine months for the products to dry on racks laid out in cool naturally aerated arches.
