Halab or Aleppo is a city and a province in Northern Syria. From this region the original soap bar was created over 2000 years ago. It is still the founding father of all vegetable based soaps, containing little more than natural oils and potash.

Aleppo is the last remaining place where the authentic "Laurel Soap" is still made. On the very edge of Asia, this Eastern Mediterranean town is ideal for growing olives and laurel. The cold dry season is also ideal for hardening the the soap which still takes places in underground caverns on traditional racks, cared for by local artisans.
